The Government of Uganda through the Directorate of Water Resources Management (DWRM) of the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) is implementing a series of major policy reforms. The reforms include the adoption of the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (lWRM) through a participatory catchment based approach to water resources investment planning, development and management. Key to this approach is the preparation of water resources development and management plans involving all stakeholders.
 
Lokere Catchment Management Plan was prepared following the Uganda Catchment Management Planning Guideline 2014 and was approved by the Lokere Catchment Management Committee in 2017. A number of interventions based on this plan are being implemented by various stakeholders and partners. One such partner is Welthunger Hilfe (WHH) that is implementing a number of interventions under a 3-year project (2019-2021) named Protection and Preservation of Lokere Water Catchment for Social Change in Karamoja, Uganda Project, that is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Cooperation and Development (BMZ).  
 
Welthunger Hilfe in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) through its Directorate of Water Resources Management –Kyoga Water Management Zone has organised a Catchment Management committee (CMC) meeting starting today, Tuesday, 31st July 2019 with field visits.The field visits where made to areas where interventions based on the Lokere CMP are already ongoing.
