Hand over of Solar PV Energy Packages to Umbrella of Water and Sanitation Authority Central

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water and Environment Mr.Alfred Okot Okidi this afternoon commissioned and handed over Solar PV Energy Packages to Umbrella of Water and Sanitation Authority-Central (UWSA-C) for operation and maintenance.
The ceremony that was graced by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Wakiso District officials including LC 5 Chairperson and  Chief Administrative Officer commenced with a site inspection of completed works done by the Contractor (Davis & Shirtliff).
The Government of the Republic of Uganda received a loan from the International Development Association(IDA) and Global Environment Facility(GEF) towards the cost of the Energy for Rural Transformation Project Phase-III( a multi-sector fund managed through Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development) which was used to supply and install solar photovoltaic energy packages for Twelve schemes including Namayumba Water Supply and Sanitation System.
These installed solar photovoltaic energy packages will significantly reduce the cost of water pumping. Initially the water tariff was at 4,000UGX but it has since reduced to 3,400UGX.
Namayumba WSS is projected to serve 17,200 people in the villages of Abdabi, Bukuku, Kabirigo, Kampala road, Kasanga, Malangata, Namayumba Central A&B, Upper Namayumba.The average water pumped is 45,900 per  day.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary said the significant reduction in the tariff charged for the water supply services is very evident and we are confident that availability and reliability of water supply are also greatly improved by this remarkable reduction of the cost of water pumping.
