Large Gravity Flow Schemes
Large Gravity Flow Schemes are water schemes that traverse local government boundaries.
- Nyarwodho Large Gravity Flow Scheme in Nebbi District. Phase I targeted a population of 85,582 persons in Jonam and Padyere Counties and has successfully connected 800 households to safe and clean water. Phase II of eagdaanof882rsdstd ot30osoedcntr
- Bududa Gravity Flow Scheme in Bududa District. Targeted a population of 63,000 persons. 800 households were successfully connected to safe and clean water.The scheme targeted a population of 63,000 persons and is expected to connect 1,200 households to safe and clean water.
- Bukwo Gravity Flow Scheme in Bukwo District. The scheme targeted a population of 54,000 persons. 312 households were successfully connected to safe and clean water. The scheme targeted a population of 54,000 persons and is expected to connect 500 households to safe and clean water.
- Butebo water supply in Pallisa District. The scheme targeted a population of 21,236 persons. The scheme successfully connected 113 households to safe and clean water.
- Buwoya-Buboko Water Supply System in Namayingo District. The system targeted a population of 17,000 persons and 160 connections were successfully made to safe and clean water.
- Lirima Gravity Flow Scheme in Manafwa District. The scheme targeted a population of 179,000 persons and is expected to connect 1,700 households .to safe and clean water
- Bukedea Gravity Flow Scheme in Bukedea District. The scheme targeted a population of 262,343 persons and is expected to connect 2,700 households to safe and clean water.
- Shuuku Masyoro Gravity Flow Scheme. The scheme targeted a population of 55,105 persons and is expected to connect 2,000 households to safe and clean water.
Solar Powered Mini-Piped Water Schemes
In Uganda, the rural water supply technology options include protected springs, shallow wells, deep boreholes, rainwater tanks and GFS taps. The Ministry discourage the implementation of shallow well technology Because of their high vulnerability to contamination, leaving the deep borehole as the only preferred technology (in areas where springs and GFS technologies cannot be implemented).
The main objective of this technology is to transform the rural water supply infrastructure from the traditional hand pumped groundwater wells to powered groundwater wells powered by either solar energy, wind energy or any other alternative form of renewable energy.

Solar Powered Micro Irrigation Schemes
The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department has recently embarked on a project to supply water for small holder farmers as a means to boost their agricultural production. Forty districts are set to benefit from this first phase of the project and at least on site will be constructed in each of the selected districts. The project is structured into three Lots:
- Lot 1 will cover districts of Western region including; Isingiro, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Mubende, Kibaale, Kanungu, Masaka, Bushenyi and Mitooma.
- Lot 2 will cover districts of Northern Uganda including; Amulator, Apac, Gulu, Koboko, Nwoya, Oyam, Lamwo, Pader, Luwero and Nakaseke. Construction contract for Lot 1 and 2 sites was awarded to CAA Communications and Accessories International Ltd and work in the respective sites has started.
- Lot 3: Lot 3 covers districts of Eastern Uganda including; Jinja, Iganga, Luuka, Mayuge, Tororo, Soroti, Namutumba, Kayunga and Wakiso. The Construction contract for all sites under Lot 3 was awarded to Doshnut (U) Ltd in association with GT20 Engineering Co. Ltd and works have started.
