My name is Vitali Kansiime. I am 58 years old. I am a resident of Kyamabale village, Lwabuza ward, Shuuku town council, Sheema district. I am one of the former wetland users who voluntarily vacated the Kandekye Ruhorobero wetland system. Under the Kyamabale Bee Keepers Group A, we received 32 beehives in 2020.
I am the chairperson of the group, and we have so far harvested honey twice. We got 20 litres. A litre goes for shs 20,000. The proceeds of the honey are deposited in the group’s account from which each member has an equal opportunity to borrow and
return with minimal interest. Currently, 20 bee hives are colonised for the third time. This time, we expect to earn
more. We are planning to improve our productivity by constructing a shed to house the beehives and protect them from interference from human activities. We are also hoping to increase our knowledge in beekeeping so we can grow the enterprise.
