Description
Mandate:
The Mid-Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation (UWS–MW) has the mandate to directly manage gazetted water supply systems to ensure their sustainability across the Mid-Western region.

Coverage
The Mid-western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation operates in 16 districts in mid-western region including; Hoima, Kikuube, kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, Mubende, Kassanda, Kasese, Bundibugyo, Kibaale, Bunyangabu, Ntoroko, Kagadi, Kakumiro, Kyegegwa and Kabarole.

Impact
Buheesi scheme improvement project in Bunyangabu district
With support from WSUP Advisory, system improvements were made for Buheesi WSS to improve water quality and enhance service reliability. The key project milestones included:
· Construction of a new intake
· Laying of a 5km transmission main
· Construction 3 break pressure tanks
· Laying of 6.5Km distribution network
System improvements in Bukuya WSS IN Kassanda district
Through the combined support from WSUP and Midwestern Umbrella of Water and Sanitation a number of interventions were implemented in Bukuya WSS. Key milestones included;
· The power extension including installation of a 50KVA transformer at the 22m3/hr production well
· Expansion of 8.5km distribution network to 4 villages of Kamondo, Nsumba, Katunguru and Ndimulaba
· Construction of 3 public tap stands to serve the unserved communities after the network expansion and intensification.
Construction of mini treatment plant - Pohe water supply system - Bunyangabu district
MWU with support from WSUP-Advisory under the Conrad N. Hilton Fund constructed a mini water treatment plant in order to improve water quality in this scheme. Key milestones of the project included;
• Construction of sedimentation tank
• Construction of horizontal gravel filter
• Installation of chlorination unit
• Chain link fencing
System upgrade of Kyarusozi WSS
To improve service reliability and expand access to safe water, the Umbrella undertook major upgrades of Kyarusozi Water Supply System.
Key components of the upgrade include:
Drilling and development of a 200 m³/day borehole to increase water production capacity.
Extension of a three-phase power supply to the new borehole to ensure stable and efficient operation.
Expansion of the main distribution network by 6.5 km to reach the villages of Katambale and Binunda, improving access to safe and clean water for more residents.
Construction of Ntara wss-Kitagwenda district
In collaboration with Kitagwenda district, Umbrella Midwest constructed Ntara-Kicwamba Wss in kitagwenda district. Key project milestones included;
· Extension of 3 phase power to the production well
· Construction of pumping station; pump house, guard house, eco san toilet, chan link fencing
· Laying of 1 km transmission line
· Laying of 10.7km distribution line
· Construction of 10psps
Ongoing projects
· Drilling and development of a new borehole in Rugombe WSS in Kyenjojo district
· Construction of 150m3 reservoir tank in Bukuya WSS
· Catchment protection of Butiiti gravity flow system in Kyenjojo district
· Extension of 6km pipe network to Kabale trading centre - Kyarusozi WSS
· Construction of new reservoir tank in Ntara WSS.
