Farmers’ Field Day at Lokitumo Demo Site in Lotisan Sub-County, Moroto District.
The Multi Purpose and Bulk Water Development Regional Centre-Karamoja, successfully held a Farmers’ Field Day at Lokitumo Demo Site in Lotisan Sub-County, Moroto District.
The demo site was implemented by Nexus Green under the Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS). It commenced in February 2026 with activities including enterprise selection, establishment of nursery beds, land preparation, soil testing, and input distribution.
Farmers proudly displayed vegetables like tomatoes, onions, and sukuma wiki to participants and neighboring farmers. The good harvests are a result of adopting recommended good agronomic practices.
During the event, farmers appealed to Government to expand the irrigation pipe network to enable increased acreage and year-round production. They expressed appreciation to the Ministry, Moroto District Local Government, and the Moroto MWE team for the continued support.
The National Project Coordinator for Solar Powered Irrigation Systems Eng. Kato Kayizzi, urged that farmers be provided with more seeds and inputs to ensure continuous crop production across seasons. He further tasked the Sub-County extension team to strengthen service delivery to sustain the irrigation facility.
For sustainability, stakeholders were encouraged to integrate the District Production Team and Sub-County technical staff into the crop production value chain.
