The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) was hosted by GAYO and the Youth Climate Council Uganda as part of their Regional Hosting Youth Organization engagements, which promote sustainable agroforestry through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) in Oyam District.
The engagement brought together youth, local government representatives, community leaders and other stakeholders for discussions and training on climate change, regenerative agriculture and agroforestry.
Participants explored how these approaches can strengthen livelihoods, enhance climate resilience and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The engagement also amplified the ongoing Running Out Of Trees (ROOTS) campaign, spearheaded by the Department of Forestry Management (DFM), which seeks to promote sustainable forest management and increase tree cover through community-led action.
Youth participants were further encouraged to engage with District Forestry Officers to access available government support, technical guidance and resources.
They were also encouraged to formally register their organisations to strengthen their recognition and legitimacy, while improving their access to relevant opportunities, services and government programmes.
