OPENING CEREMONY OF THE UGANDA WATER AND ENVIRONMENT WEEK 2026

The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda; Hon. Robinah Nabbanja officially opened the 9th Uganda Water and Environment Week that is being held at the Ministry from 23rd March to 27th March, 2026 under the theme: “Water and Environment for an inclusive and prosperous Uganda”.


The overall goal of the Week is to demonstrate the role of water and environment in achieving Uganda’s tenfold growth strategy and aligning the sector implementation objectives with Africa Agenda 2063 and other Global frameworks.


The Uganda Water and Environment Week 2026 is centered on the following four sub-themes:


1. Role of water and environment in achieving Uganda's Tenfold Growth strategy

2. Accelerating progress in water and environment through science, technology, innovations and capacity building

3. Ensuring environmentally sustainable and climate resilient economies and communities

4. Leveraging the power and capacity of women, youth and children in delivery of water and environment services


The sub-themes are proposed to address water, environment and climate change issues and challenges and outcomes and recommendations from key global water and environment related events. 


During the opening ceremony, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister launched the following:


1. Strategic Development Plan, Service Delivery Standards and Clients Charter for the period FY 2025/26 - FY 2029/30) of the Ministry of Water and Environment. 


2. Natural Resources, Environment, Climate Change, Land and Water Management Annual Programme Performance Report 2025.


3. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) National Adaptation Plan for Uganda (2026-2030).


4. Water and Environment Management Information System (WEMIS) 2026. 


Exhibitions, Key Note Presentation and Panel discussions were also conducted during the opening of the Week.
