Kampala, 21/10/2026: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) Dr. Alfred Okot Okidi has met with the Executive Director of Uganda Development Bank Limited (UDBL)Dr. Patricia Adongo Ojangole to explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing Uganda’s climate investment agenda ahead of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31).
The engagement is aimed at strengthening partnerships between government and development financing institutions to mobilise resources for climate action, promote sustainable investments and translate Uganda’s climate priorities into bankable projects.
The Department of Climate Change and Carbon Trade (DCCCT) welcomes the engagement as an important step towards linking national climate commitments with development financing, while creating opportunities for climate-resilient development and sustainable business growth.
Under the theme “Building and Branding Uganda as a Climate Investment Hub,” Uganda’s preparations for COP31 emphasise the importance of strategic partnerships, innovative financing mechanisms and investment-ready projects that respond to the country’s climate priorities.
Collaboration with Uganda Development Bank presents an opportunity to explore how development finance can support climate-related investments, strengthen community resilience and unlock private-sector participation in the transition towards a climate-resilient and sustainable economy.
The Ministry of Water and Environment, through DCCCT, appreciates UDBL’s engagement and looks forward to building on the discussions to advance practical areas of collaboration ahead of COP31 and beyond.
The engagement underscores the importance of aligning climate action with development financing to position Uganda as an attractive destination for investments that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits.
