The Deputy Head of Public Service and Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet; Dr. Theopista Mary Wenene officiated at the Graduation Ceremony of the 5th Cycle of the Water Resources Institute Mentorship Programme held at the Ministry Headquarters in Luzira. 


A total of 80 Mentees Graduated in the 5th Cycle (45 Females and 35 Males). 

The Graduation ceremony was also graced by the Guest Speaker; Hon. Lady Justice Stella Alibateese. 

The Water Resources Institute (WRI) Mentorship Programme is a flagship initiative under the Institute’s Ten-Year Strategic Plan, designed to strengthen capacity of staff within the Ministry of Water and Environment and the sector at large. The programme nurtures young and mid-career professionals by equipping them with critical technical, leadership, skills necessary for effective service delivery.


The programme focuses on enhancing professional articulation, strengthening scientific and leadership capabilities, and fostering confidence among practitioners to actively engage in decision-making processes. It is anchored on three core pillars: building confidence and communication skills, promoting gender responsiveness and inclusion, and strengthening capacity for applied training, research, dialogue, and outreach.


The WRI Mentorship Programme continues to play a critical role in developing a competent, confident, and future-ready workforce. Its success underscores the need for continued investment, expansion, and institutionalization to ensure sustained impact across the entire water and environment sector in Uganda.


The Graduation ceremony was also graced by the Guest Speaker; Hon. Lady Justice Stella Alibateese, the Permanent Secretary; Dr. Alfred Okot Okidi, the Under Secretary Finance and Administration-MWE; Ms. Nassuna Catherine, Commissioners in the Ministry of Water and Environment, Representatives of Development Partners, and Civil Society Organizations, Heads of the various Agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations, Mentors and Mentees of the Water Resources Institute Mentorship Programme, Staff of the Ministry of Water and Environment

and Stakeholders. 


The Mentorship Programme is implemented with support from WaterAid Uganda.
