CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE UGANDA WATER AND ENVIRONMENT WEEK 2026

The Minister of Water and Environment; Hon. Sam Cheptoris represented the Guest of Honour - the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Hon. Matia Kasaija and officially closed the 9th Uganda Water and Environment Week.


The event was held at the Ministry from 23rd March to 27th March, 2026 and celebrated under the theme: “Water and Environment for an inclusive and prosperous Uganda”.


The overall goal of the Week was to demonstrate the role of water and environment in achieving Uganda’s tenfold growth strategy and aligning the sector implementation objectives with Africa Agenda 2063 and other Global frameworks.


The Uganda Water and Environment Week 2026 takeaways and commitments centered on the following key areas for action:


1. Water Security 

2. Ecosystem Restoration 

3. Youth and Technology 

4. Citizen Engagement 

5. Protection of Ecosystems 

6. Partnerships and Innovation 

7. Inclusivity is Key 


During the closing ceremony, the Minister of Water and Environment led a Team to witness the operation of the Weather Balloon. The weather balloon is used for transporting radiosonde into the atmosphere, measure weather parameters i.e. pressure, temperature, height, wind speed and direction.


There was launch of Climate Resilient Action Plans (CRAPs) and Reports. These were; 


1. Lower Muyembe Micro-Catchment Climate Resilient Action Plan 

2. Sironko Sub-Catchment Climate Resilient Action Plan 

3. Middle Sironko Micro-Catchment Climate Resilient Action Plan

4. Upper Muyembe Micro-Catchment Climate Resilient Action Plan 

5. Sasa Micro-Catchment Climate Resilient Action Plan 

6. Sirimityo Micro-Catchment Climate Resilient Action Plan

7. Lower Simu Micro-Catchment Climate Resilient Action Plan 

8. Water Resources Management Information and Knowledge Management Guidelines for Uganda 

9. Capacity and Data Management Gaps and Needs for Key Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Sectors in Uganda (Comprehensive Technical Report)

10. Capacity and Data Management Gaps and Needs for Key Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Sectors in Uganda (Technical Summary Report)


The closing ceremony was attended by MWE Political Leadership, Members of Parliament,​ UNDP Resident Representative in Uganda, the Minister of Buganda Kingdom in charge of Bulungi Bwansi, Environment, Water and People’s Affairs, Representatives of the various Development Partners, Representatives of Private Sector and Civil Society Organisations, Representatives of the other stakeholders and Government Officials from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
