About

The Ministry of Water and Environment, through its Water for Production (WfP) Department, is actively implementing a broad range of programs aimed at improving the livelihoods of rural communities by promoting the productive use of water resources. These efforts are designed to support agricultural activities such as crop irrigation, livestock farming, aquaculture, rural-based industries, and other commercial enterprises that depend on reliable water access.

A key focus of the Ministry’s strategy is to increase the volume and accessibility of water storage through the construction of medium and small-scale irrigation schemes, earth dams, valley tanks, deep boreholes, and bulk water supply systems across different regions. These infrastructure developments are essential to enhancing resilience to climate variability, improving food security, and enabling sustainable economic development.

To ensure effective implementation and long-term sustainability of these initiatives, the Ministry is also strengthening its technical capacity by recruiting qualified personnel for positions such as Engineer, Irrigation Officer, and Assistant Irrigation Officer under the WfP Department. These efforts are part of a broader national commitment to transform rural livelihoods through reliable and equitable access to water for production.
