Dear Department of Meteorological Services (DMS) Stakeholder; The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) through the Department of Meteorological Services (DMS), wishes to inform the general public, government institutions, development partners, private sector stakeholders, and the media that the World Meteorological Organisation and the global climate monitoring centres are indicating that there is an increased likelihood of the development of an EI Nino event during the second half of 2026, with a possible persistence into 2027. The Government of Uganda (GoU) represented by the Ministry of Water and Environment has received financing in the amount of US$ 6.3m equivalent from the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund (UNMPTF) through the Islamic Development Bank toward the cost of the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project.
