Mubende, 9th May 2026
The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) today commissioned and officially handed over three new piped water supply systems in Mubende District, a move expected to significantly improve access to safe and reliable water for thousands of residents.
The systems, handed over to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) for operation and maintenance, are part of Government of Uganda’s ongoing efforts to increase rural water supply coverage and reduce reliance on unsafe water sources.
The three commissioned schemes are:
1. Kibalinga–Bageza WSS – Rehabilitation and augmentation of the existing system to improve capacity and service reliability.
2. Kalingo–Kyakadalli WSS – A newly constructed system to serve communities that previously had no piped water infrastructure.
3. Kibalinga–Bageza WSS – The additional works under this scheme ensure extended network coverage and improved pressure for beneficiary communities.
Speaking at the handover event, an Eng. Arinaitwe Michi Paul Ministry representative noted that the projects represent a major step in bridging the water access gap in Mubende. With NWSC now managing operations, we expect improved service delivery, reduced downtime, and sustainable water use for the beneficiary communities,” he noted.
Local leaders welcomed the development, saying it will ease the burden on women and children who previously walked long distances to fetch water from unprotected sources. They pledged to work with NWSC and communities to protect the infrastructure and promote water conservation.
With funding from the Government of Uganda and EXIM Bank of India, the completion and commissioning of these schemes add to MWE’s broader strategy of investing in climate-resilient, community-centered water infrastructure across rural areas of Uganda.
