28 October 2026. The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), together with the World Bank technical team, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) and other project stakeholders, continued field inspections in Eastern Uganda under the Integrated Water Management and Development Project (IWMDP).

Today’s engagements covered the Tirinyi–Kibuku–Kadama–Budaka Water Supply and Sanitation System and the Bukizibu–Bumwena Water Supply System in Mayuge District.

In Budaka, the team engaged the contractor and supervising consultant on project completion readiness before inspecting the contractor’s site and various project components.

The World Bank technical team commended the contractor and MWE team for the progress achieved and urged NWSC to prioritise the remaining milestone of ensuring that communities in the project supply areas have reliable access to safe and clean water.

The Tirinyi–Kibuku–Kadama–Budaka system includes approximately 60 km of transmission pipelines, 67 km of distribution pipelines and 1,300 planned water connections, aimed at improving access to safe and reliable water services.

The mission also inspected the Bukizibu–Bumwena Water Supply System in Mayuge District to review implementation progress and service delivery considerations.

Tomorrow, 29 October 2026, the mission proceeds to the Kaliro–Namungalwe Water Supply System, covering Masese, Wairaka, Iganga, Namungalwe and Kaliro, to assess implementation progress, water connections and environmental and social safeguards.

The ongoing field inspections will inform subsequent technical discussions and priority actions under the World Bank-financed IWMDP Implementation Support Mission.
