Karamoja Umbrella of Water and Sanitation  

BACKGROUND

Karamoja Umbrella of Water Sanitation-Karamoja (KUWS) was established in 2014 with its secretariat offices in Moroto District.

In 2017, KUWS was gazetted as a Water and Sewerage Authority for selected water supply systems in the region. It is mandated as a water authority to implement operations and maintenance in 37 water supply systems. 

It operates in the 9 districts of Karamoja Region; including Abim, Kotido, Karenga, Kaabong, Moroto, Napak, Amudat, Nabilatuk and Nakapiripirit.

OBJECTIVES

• Improving communication and exchange with various stakeholders. 

• Ensuring financial sustainability of the Umbrella Authority

• Enhancing technical and management capacities of water supply systems

• Increasing functionality and capacity utilization of operated water supply systems.

• Enhancing Water Quality Monitoring.

• Enhancing program performance through systematic use of data-driven decision-making processes.

• Water produced - 873,000 litres per day.

• Active Connections – 4,448

• Population served – 313,445

• Villages Served - 316

• Length of pipeline network laid 885.56 kms
