The launch of the Lango Water Operations Parnership project
The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Water and Environment Dr.Alfred Okot Okidi officiates at the launch of the national operation and maintenance framework for Lango Sub region. This took place at the Kole District, Headquarters. Kole District is one out of the nine(9) districts in the Lango Sub region.
The launch was organised by RWSRC1 and Uduma.
Also present at the event were; the Acting Commissioner for Rural water and sanitation Department: Eng.Olweny Lamu, Manager for RWSRC1-Eng.Stanley Watenga, MWE staff(WSDF_N, RWSRC1 and NUWS), Representatives from Lango Kingdom( Minister for water ,forestry and Environment),RDCs, and representatives from the all the 9 districts in Lango sub region,Uduma and Conrad N.Hilton foundation( The project funder)
The objective of this project is;
1)Fixing and upgrading of water points.Over 1000 boreholes will be repaired and about 100 boreholes will be upgraded to solar powered tap stands.
2) One professional operator.A Single Service Area Provider( ASP) will manage all Rural water supply systems across the nine districts of the sub region.
3)Fair community payments.Every household will pay a minimum fee for the maintenance of the boreholes and tap stands keep running.
4)Reliable service. The Area Service Provider will collect the fees for maintaining the systems ensuring faster repairs and consistent standards.
The Guest of the honour,Permanent Secretary of MWE, Dr.Alfred Okidi appreciated all the representatives from 9 districts for coming together to make this vision possible and also emphasised that the fee that will be collected from the user communities is not for the water but rather for the services rendered to maintain the water systems.
Back ground:
The government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment, is rolling out a National operation and maintenance Framework in Lango sub region through the project Lango Water Operations Parnership.
The project is funded by Conrad N.Hilton Foundation and implemented in collaboration with Rural water supply regional center 1,District leaders, Uduma and NGOs.
It covers all the 9 districts of Lango Sub region:Alebtong,Amolator,
Apac,Dokolo, Kole,Lira,Oyam,Otuke and Kwania
