
Launch of the construction of the Nangololapolon dam
The construction of the Nangololapolon dam was officially launched by a team from the Ministry of Water and Environment, led by Eng. Kato Ronald Kayizzi the National Project Coordinator and Assistant Commissioner, Water for Production at MWE.
Eng. Kayizzi who was representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Alfred Okot Okidi noted that the construction will kick start with Naitakiru Valley Tank in Nakapelimoru S/C, Kotido District and equipment was already on site.
Project Highlights
Nangololapolon Dam; 1.7km long, 6m high, serving Kotido and Kaabong districts.
Lemusui Dam, Located between Nakapiripirit and Amudat.
Additional Components; 3 valley tanks and 4 boreholes per dam.
The goal is to improve water access for pastoral and agro-pastoral communities, reduce pastoral migration impacts, and enhance resilience to drought and climate change. Representatives from KfW, Kotido District, Ministry Headquarters, WfPRC-K and other stakeholders were present at the launch.
This project is expected to significantly improve lives in Karamoja by providing reliable water access for people and livestock, supporting settled and migrating pastoralists.
