
Kakumiro Water Supply System Set for Commissioning
Officials led by Eng. David Bateganya, recently conducted a final technical inspection of the Kakumilo Water Supply System (WSS) project. The project was constructed by Ms Shakti Pumps India Ltd with financial support from the Government of Uganda and EXIM BANK of India, aims to provide clean water to 63 villages in Kakumiro District.
Project Overview
The Kakumilo WSS project will supply the following:
Kikwaya Sub-County; 11 villages will benefit from a 22km pipeline, 150m3 reservoir tank, and 30 connections (22 yard taps and 8 PSPs).
Kakindo-Igomba TC; 13 villages will benefit from 3 water sources (Kyakakwenda BH, Kakindo II Igombawa, and Birembo II/Quarry) with a combined yield of 26.8m3/hr, a 100m3 & 50m3 reservoir, and 27 connections.
Igayaza TC; 28 villages will benefit from 2 water sources (Kikwaya II and Rubazi I) with a combined yield of 22.2m3/hr, 30km pipeline, 150m3 reservoir, and 22 connections.
Birembo Sub-County; 11 villages will benefit from 2 water sources (Birembo 1 Nabingola swamp and Birembo II/Quarry) with a combined yield of 19.1m3/hr, 6km transmission pipeline, 12km distribution pipeline, and 22 connections.
Mr. Bazaara Lawrence, District councilor Kakindo Town Council thanked the Ministry for supporting the district and requested that identified issues be addressed promptly to ensure smooth operation of the system. He also appealed for an affordable tariff to enable the communities to continue enjoying the service.
Eng. David Bateganya assured the community that the contractor will be responsible for addressing any issues that arise within the 365-day effects liability period after commissioning.
With the final technical inspection successfully completed, the project is set for commissioning, which will significantly improve access to clean water for the beneficiary communities in Kakumiro District.
Also present during the inspection and meeting were RWSSRC-5, Kakumiro district leadership, local leaders, contractor team, and Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) officials.
