The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), through the Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Services Department under the Integrated Water Management and Development Project (IWMDP), conducted the 17th Technical Site Inspection for the ongoing construction of the Butaleja and Busolwe Water Supply and Sanitation System.

The meeting was led by Eng Aloysius Kafeeza and attended by, the contractor (China Geo Engineering Corporation), supervising consultants (Saman Corporation, Cheil Engineering Co. Ltd, and Air Water Earth Ltd), and representatives of the District Local Government.
The inspection was focused on verifying progress, monitoring snags, and preparing for the upcoming technical commissioning.

Project Overview

Start Date: 2nd January 2024

Goal: Serve 57 villages and 70,000 people by 2040

Progress as of 28th August 2025

Overall physical progress: 94.5% (pending mainly house connections)

Transmission mains: 100%

Distribution lines:
Butaleja: 100%
Busolwe: 100%

Public toilets:
Butaleja: Daily: 100% | Weekly: 100%
Busolwe: Daily: 100% | Weekly: 100%

Reservoirs:
Butaleja: 97%
Busolwe: 96%

PSPs: 90% (10/10 constructed undergoing finishes)

Connections: ~10% (main outstanding activity, laying of intensification lines ongoing)

50m³ tank rehabilitation: 100% complete

Focus of Meeting: Project closure activities, including snag list monitoring, test running of completed works, and preparation for technical commissioning.
