23 Districts to benefit from Rural Water Supply Project with Saudi Fund for Development
In August 2024, the Government of Uganda (represented by the Ministry of Finance) and the Saudi Fund for Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a grant aid to implement Rural Water Supply in 23 Districts of Uganda including Agago, Pader, Kitgum, Amuru, Nwoya Busia, Iganga, Kamuli, Jinja, Luuka, Serere, Kaberamaido, Mubende, Kayunga, Wakiso, Kakumiro, Mukono, Kalungu, Buvuma, Kyenjojo, Ntoroko, Kakumiro, Kisoro and Masindi.
The Government of Uganda has started with the implementation of the grant by signing a contract with the supervising Consultant EDS International / Mohammed Osama Al-Kabbani.
The signing ceremony on behalf of the Government of Uganda was conducted by the Permanent Secretary; Dr. Alfred Okot Okidi. In witness of the signing ceremony were; Mr. Mutiibwa Robert Kirya – Principal Water Officer, Mr. Erisa Kyeyune – Senior Water Officer and Bisoborwa Paul – Senior Sociologist from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department.
An estimated 23 small scale water supply systems in the rural areas will mainly target institutions including primary schools, health centres III and selected police posts. A target beneficiary population of 15,000 persons will be served under this intervention.
