The Ministry of Water and Environment has handed over the newly completed Kamuli Water Supply and Sanitation System to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), marking a significant step toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal Six, which focuses on providing clean water and sanitation for all.

The handover ceremony, which took place at the water plant in Mbulamuti, Kamuli, was attended by the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy, local political leaders, and community members.

This project is part of Phase One of the Strategic Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project (STWSSP).

During the event, committee chairperson Hon. Ikojo John Bosco praised the Ministry of Water and Environment for its commitment towards implementation of government programmes that improve people’s standards of living.

Project manager Eng. Dr. Felix Twinomucunguzi highlighted the completed works, including a new water treatment plant, pump houses, sedimentation tanks, and public stand-posts.

He also noted that the contractor, M/S Vidas Engineering Services Company Ltd., will be responsible for fixing any defects during the liability period.

The new system is expected to increase water and sanitation services in the area by 80%.

An NWSC representative stated that the old system provided water for only 12 hours a day, but the new one will enable a 24-hour supply.

Local residents expressed their excitement about the project’s impact.

Nassim Nambogwe, a water user in Mbulamuti, said the new system will allow her to buy a jerrycan of water for just UGX 100, a significant drop from the Ugsh500 she previously paid.

Patrick Muzira, a teacher at St. Paul Senior Secondary School also thanked the government for prioritizing the development of Kamuli district.
