6th Project Site Meeting – IWMDP Lot 1 (Lugala & Bukizibu–Bumwena Water Supply and Sanitation Systems)

The Ministry of Water and Environment, through the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department, together with the contractor Techno Three (U) Ltd, today held the 6th site meeting for the Integrated Water Management and Development Project (IWMDP) – Lot 1.

The meeting was attended by MWE staff, the contractor, District and Sub-County officials, and local leaders from Namayingo and Mayuge.

This World Bank & GoU-funded investment covers two solar-powered piped water supply and sanitation systems:

 Lugala Water Supply & Sanitation System – Namayingo District
• Serving 7 villages: Budala, Lugala Beach, Budunga East, Buhima, Namake, Bunini, Busino.
• Components: Lake Victoria intake, conventional treatment plant, 2 steel reservoirs (300m³ & 100m³), 17km of pipelines(Distribution and Transmission) 2 public sanitation facilities, water office block, workshop and laboratory, chemical house, staff house and 400 service connections.

 Bukizibu–Bumwena Water Supply & Sanitation System – Mayuge District
• Serving 6 villages: Bukizibu, Bukizibu TC, Namasonko, Bukizibu Central, Bukizibu A, Bumwena TC.
• Components: raw water pumping system, 10kms pipeline network(Distribution and transmission )130m³ steel reservoir, 17 public stand posts, 6-stance sanitation facility, 79 solar panels, chlorine dosing system, and 400 service connections.

 Progress Update
• Physical progress: 62%
• Time progress: 64%
• Expected completion: January 2026

Stakeholder Highlights
• The Namayingo and Mayuge District Chairpersons commended the Ministry for the initiative, noting that communities are eager for piped water, and urged the contractor to beat deadlines.
• Eng. David Bateganya, who chaired the meeting, appreciated the contractor for accelerating progress.
• The Namayingo District Engineer encouraged local leaders to work as a team to address community challenges and reaffirmed the District’s full support.

The  Ministry reaffirms its commitment to delivering safe, sustainable, and equitable water supply in line with SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation for All.
